3rd Place QWERTY

mere
Meredith Letts
I was wandering around Crate & Barrel waiting for a friend when I walked by this old typewriter used as a prop. I love the old keys and also the circular shadows they cast. When I looked at the typewriter for some reason the name of the keyboard layout "QWERTY" popped into my mind, which is why I named it that and focused on mainly those keys.

Also as a side note - don't ever take a picture inside Crate & Barrel - they don't like it at all and told me not to do it again.

I was torn between this shot and the copper poles, but I have to pick one. This was my original choice for best overall.

Love the vintage typewriter, the broken space bar, the excellent lighting. It creates a mood and, again, tells a story.

- great subject! (seeing circles in less obvious places)
- monochromatic gradient color and light (love the shadows)
- sense of nostalgia, somewhat emotional quality

This was my favorite 'story behind the shot'. It should win best combat photo. :)
